Oka Skating Academy provides hockey athletes with access to small-group on-ice training, dryland development, and specialized classes and programs designed to support continued development throughout the year.
Our Devils Lake programs combine intentional, technique-driven coaching with opportunities to develop stronger skating fundamentals, more efficient movement, and overall athleticism...helping build confident, capable athletes both on and off the ice.
Annual Enrollment: August – October
Pre-Season Training: September - October
Main Season Training: November – February
Additional Opportunities: Offered throughout the year
What We Offer
Oka Skating Academy is primarily a powerskating and hockey skating development program, providing technical coaching designed to help hockey athletes become stronger, more efficient, and more confident skaters.
Our on-ice training is centered around developing skating skills through intentional, technique-driven coaching, while our dryland and specialty offerings provide additional opportunities to support overall athlete development throughout the year.
Small-Group On-Ice Training
Our primary service is small-group powerskating and skating development. Groups are intentionally kept small, allowing athletes to receive individualized coaching within a small-group environment.
Training focuses on the technical development of skating mechanics, edge work, balance, stride efficiency, power, speed, and movement that transfers directly to the game.
Preseason: September – October
Main Season: November – February
Spring Training: March
Summer Training: June
Dryland Training
Oka offers off-ice athletic development in Devils Lake. Dryland training gives athletes another opportunity to build overall athleticism while developing strength, coordination, mobility, balance, and movement skills that support performance both on and off the ice
Availability and training formats vary throughout the year.
Specialty Classes & Training
Throughout the year, we offer additional opportunities designed around specific ages, skills and/or development needs.
These may include Mite skating classes, pop-up lessons, PowerSkater® training using equipment by STRYDE Hockey™, specialty off-ice sessions, camps, and other targeted training opportunities.
Who We Work With
Our small-group training primarily serves Squirt-level athletes and above, with groups built around age, playing level, and skating ability.
We also create select opportunities specifically for Mite and newer hockey athletes, giving younger players an appropriate environment to develop their skating fundamentals before progressing into our regular small-group training.
Because our groups are intentionally kept small, space is limited. When available training times reach capacity, athletes may be placed on a waitlist and contacted as additional opportunities become available.

She has greatly improved her skills and is more confident in the ice.
“Skating with Mallory has been the highlight of my daughters hockey season! She has greatly improved her skills and is more confident in the ice! It has been fun to watch her grow as a hockey play and are so thankful for Mallory to help her with that in a way that is so much fun and makes her want to show up week after week!”
Abbey, Athlete’s Mom
Fantastic coach when it came to breaking down skating deficiency.
“Mallory was a fantastic coach when it came to breaking down skating deficiency. She was able to connect with my boys and show them the things they could do in order to improve their stride. We plan on doing anything we can to travel back to see her again.”
