ABOUT OKA POWERSKATING
Professional skating development. Personalized coaching. Athlete-centered growth.
Oka Powerskating is a division of Oka Skating Academy, an athlete development organization founded in 2020. Oka Skating Academy is home to two specialized coaching brands: Oka Powerskating and Oka Figure Skating.
Oka Powerskating focuses on hockey-specific skating development through weekly training programs, travel coaching opportunities and camps. Built around a personalized, small-group training model, our programs are designed to help athletes develop stronger skating skills, build confidence, and continue progressing in an increasingly demanding game.
WHY OKA WAS CREATED
As a coach from a small North Dakota community, I have seen firsthand how difficult it can be for athletes and families to access specialized training opportunities. Throughout my coaching career, I have invested heavily in continuing education, athlete development, and skating-specific training. Through my background in figure skating, years of studying skating skills and movement development, and coaching experiences across the country, I have had the opportunity to learn from a wide variety of coaches, programs, and training environments.
Those experiences shaped the foundation of Oka Powerskating.
I believe every athlete deserves access to quality coaching, meaningful feedback, and opportunities to continue developing their skills. Oka Powerskating was created to provide a more personalized approach to skating development…one that allows athletes to receive individualized attention, focused coaching, and the support needed to continue progressing in an increasingly demanding game.
Today, we work with hockey athletes across a wide range of ages and competitive levels, helping them develop stronger skating skills, greater confidence, and the tools needed to succeed both on and off the ice.
OUR APPROACH
There is no substitute for quality coaching and meaningful feedback.
Our programs are intentionally designed to create meaningful development opportunities for athletes. Whether working in a small-group setting, team environment, or camp format, our goal remains the same: providing athletes with focused coaching, purposeful training, and opportunities to continue improving.
In many ways, our coaching model resembles personal training on ice. Athletes are not simply moving through drills—they are learning, receiving feedback, making adjustments, and building skills through purposeful coaching.
Technical development is a central part of our coaching philosophy. Rather than simply asking athletes to complete drills, we strive to help them understand the purpose behind the skills they are learning and how those skills translate to hockey performance. When athletes understand the "why" behind the training, they become more confident, more independent, and more invested in their own development.
MEET THE TEAM
At Oka Powerskating, our coaching team is committed to helping athletes develop stronger skating skills, greater confidence, and a deeper understanding of movement on the ice. Each coach brings their own experience, perspective, and expertise while sharing the same commitment to quality coaching, athlete development, and creating a positive training environment.
