Figure skating is a uniquely beautiful sport.

Not only does it require the strength and power of an explosive athlete but the artistry and grace of a true performer.

skills earned through hard work, discipline and the will to never give up

will build a solid foundation for success on and off the ice.

Let’s jump into the sport and explore the opportunities it has to offer.

Figure Skating Development Pipeline

Generally, figure skating athletes start their journey in a Learn to Skate program. This is where kids start building a strong foundation of skating skills through the curriculum taught in Learn to Skate USA programs. Reach out to your local rinks to find out about your Learn to Skate program.

Families opt in to private lessons after completing the LTS program or during while their athlete is still in the LTS program. Private lesson athletes have the opportunity to perform at any Oka Skating Academy exhibition and compete at ‘Compete USA’ competitions. Skaters at this level must be taking private lessons as this is where programs are choreographed. Scroll down to learn about private lessons.

Once athletes have advanced their skills through majority of the Learn to Skate USA levels, they can advance to higher levels of competition. Athletes also have the opportunity to begin ‘testing’ through U.S. Figure Skating’s testing structure, which is the backbone of advanced skill development. All athletes at this level must be taking private lessons for advanced competitions and testing.

How to Work with Us

PRIVATE LESSONS

For athletes ready to perform to their potential on the ice.

Our personalized coaching will guide your athlete toward reaching their goal, performing to their potential and giving your athlete more confidence every time they step on the ice.

Booked through monthly commitments, pop-up lessons or travel sessions, our coaching team is ready to take your athlete’s skating skills to the next level.

Our Private Lessons

Our weekly lessons run October/November through February/March. To book your spot, all families must fill out our athlete intake form during our enrollment period (two weeks in September). To learn more, click here.

Pop-up lessons occur at various times through each season. These lessons can be with any academy coach and are 15-30 minutes in length. Pop-up lessons are not continuous but rather a great opportunity for a quick refresh on skating skills or to tackle one to two specific elements. Pop-up lessons are offered to Oka Skating Academy members before the public. Join our email list here.

Travel sessions are for programs who’d like to bring in a skating skills specialist (available for pattern dance, solo freedance, moves-in-the-field, power and edge development, synchronized skating and choreography). Coach Mallory Olson will travel to you, handle all registrations and provide lessons for your program athletes. This is great opportunity for athletes to learn from a skating skills specialist. Reach out for more information. Read about Mallory’s experience here.
