What We Offer
Oka Powerskating provides structured, personalized coaching designed to help hockey players become stronger, faster, and more confident on the ice. The season is divided into three options — Pre-Season (Sept 15–Oct 17, 2025) and Main Season (Nov–February) and Post Season (March) — with the flexibility to enroll in one or all.
Skaters are scheduled in weekly lessons with Coach Mallory, a figure skater turned hockey coach with a focus on edgework, balance, and explosive skating. Lessons are tailored to each player’s age and skill level, ensuring every athlete gets the right amount of challenge and support. Families pay a monthly rate that includes weekly lessons, seasonal pop-up classes, and access to additional ice time for practice.
Depending on the season, skaters may also benefit from:
Specialty off-ice sessions, such as sports psychology, yoga, stretching, or stickhandling
Powerskater machine training to isolate and strengthen stride mechanics
Space in the program is limited, as all sessions are coached directly by Mallory. Small group lessons are intentionally kept small to ensure focused instruction and meaningful ice time. When the schedule reaches capacity, additional skaters will be placed on a waitlist and notified if a spot becomes available.
Who We Serve
Oka Powerskating primarily works with Squirts and above during the Main Season. Younger players (Mites and below) may be added during the Pre-Season if time permits. Space is limited, and when the schedule is full, new skaters are placed on a waitlist.

The athletes vastly improve it seems almost immediately when working with her…
“Mallory has a knack for understanding and connecting with the kids/athletes. She is always encouraging them to participate during their lessons, explaining, and demonstrating technique in a way that is understood by the kids/athletes. The athletes/kids vastly improve it seems almost immediately when working with her.”
Eric, Athlete’s Dad
His stride, agilty, and edge work is amazing and on the same level as many players much older than him.
“My son has made great improvements in his skating abilities since he started with OKA. Even though he is only a Pee Wee, his stride, agility, and edge work is amazing and on the same level as many players much older than him. These improvements have led him to build confidence which has translated into him becoming a much greater hockey player.
Athlete’s Dad

Frequently Asked Questions
WHERE ARE SESSIONS AT?
September-October on-ice sessions are at the Burdick Arena. November through March on-sessions are held at the Bill Jerome Arena. Pop-up classes will be a various locations, communicated to all enrolled families.
WHO WILL MY CHILD BE IN A GROUP WITH?
Groups are chosen by the coach and based on skill and age, which is gathered in the enrollment form. The goal is to have the group athletes very similar in skating skills.
COULD MY CHILD’S GROUP EVER CHANGE?
Yes, it is a possibility. If the coach finds an athlete would be better suited in a different group, the coach will communicate this to the parent. At the end of the day, sessions flow best when athletes are of similar skating skills. Moving an athlete to a new group is only for the benefit of that athlete!
WHAT SHOULD MY CHILD WEAR?
Athletes must wear a helmet and bring their stick. We highly recommend and encourage athletes to be in FULL GEAR. For goalies, please communicate with your coach as we sometimes have goalies go without their pads (pending athletes’ needs).
HOW DO I DECIDE HOW MANY MONTHS MY CHILD SHOULD TAKE LESSONS WITH OKA?
We HIGHLY recommend enrolling for the entire season. Continued training and practice brings forth the most return and greatest progress on skating skills and power! However, this varies per family. Please reach out if you need guidance in choosing.
WHAT HAPPENS IF WE CAN’T MAKE A LESSON ONE WEEK?
Please let the coach know ahead of time. Small group lessons are generally not rescheduled due to numerous families invested in that training session. Solo lessons can be rescheduled as long as there is communication to the coach within the time frame listed in our policy.
CAN MY ATHLETE SKATE BEFORE/AFTER THEIR SESSION? WHAT ABOUT OTHER OKA ICE TIMES?
YES! We highly encourage athletes to USE OUR ICE! At minimum, we want to see athletes skating 15 minutes prior to their lesson and 15 minutes after their lesson. All enrolled athletes can use our ice for skill practice, regardless if their lesson with coach is that day or not.
DO FAMILIES WITH MULTIPLE KIDS RECEIVE ANY DISCOUNT?
Yes, families of 3+ receive a 5% discount on monthly fees + the enrollment fee is capped at $150.
