Weekly personalized coaching for figure skating athletes

Our weekly lessons give athletes the time and space to develop technique

through repetition and continuous feedback. In our environment, athletes are able to think about their skating skills in ways they may have never before, allowing them to make adjustments and

build better skating habits.

The best part of our weekly lessons…we get to work together EVERY WEEK! This allows athletes the chance to really develop and

sink into their best skating habits.

Whether you’re seeking lessons for your five-year old just learning how to skate or your figure skating athlete wanting to jump and spin… we have the perfect coach for you.

How to Get Started

Provides an uplifting and positive environment…

We LOVE Oka Skating Academy! This is Nora's second year with private lessons & both Mallory & Brenna have been wonderful. The best experience I have had with any sports program…

There is no doubt they are having an absolute blast out there. Also seeing how quickly my daughter has learned to skate and watching her confidence on the ice grow far past my expectations. It was by far the best experience I have had with any sports program I have put her in and looking forward to next year already

2023-2024 Season Info

Our primary rink will be the Pete Conlin Arena (Raymond Family Center)!

Our season will begin early November and run through February. We are offering weekly lessons and a weekly off-ice training class! For families interested in competition, we will attend Magic City Figure Skating Club’s competition in February. Coaches will communicate to you the in’s-and-out’s of competition and what it entails!

To skate with us, all families must complete the athlete intake form during our enrollment period. This form collects information on your schedule, athlete’s level and more… information we use to pair your athlete with a coach and find the right time for their training!

After completing the form, watch your email for your next step. You can expect an email no later than October 15, 2023.

The first day of lessons will be November 2nd or the following week*

Frequently Asked Questions

HOW DOES PAYMENT WORK?

Lessons are a monthly fee. Our dryland class is also a monthly fee. You can opt to pay for the entire season (four months) upfront or pay each month via automatic payments. Payment for competition is completely separate and invoiced by the coach.

WHAT HAPPENS IF WE ARE GONE ONE WEEK?

You will pick it up when you return! There are no make-up days for group lessons and classes.

WHERE ARE LESSONS HELD AT?

The Pete Conlin Arena (Rec Center). Your reminder texts will also share the location.

HOW CAN MY ATHLETE GET MORE PRACTICE TIME?

All Oka Skating Academy students are welcomed to each ice session we have (Sundays, Wednesdays, Thursdays) regardless if they have a scheduled lesson or not. We highly encourage athletes to use all ice sessions to practice their skills!

WHO WILL BE MY ATHLETE’S COACH?

Your athlete will be paired with a coach based on their skill level and availability (our coaches are available different days). After completing the athlete intake form, your proposal will list who your athlete is paired with. Please note, if you worked with a certain coach last season, we will prioritize your time with that coach!

WHO WILL MY ATHLETE BE IN A GROUP LESSON WITH?

Small group lessons athletes are paired based on skill and age, which is gathered in the athlete intake form. The goal for all groups is to have the athletes very similar in skating skills. It is important to note that our limited ice time will likely require most athletes to share a lesson time.

DO HOCKEY AND FIGURE SKATING ATHLETES SHARE THE ICE?

No! 2023-2024 is providing our figure skating athletes with their own ice!

WHAT SHOULD MY ATHLETE WEAR?

Figure skating athletes must have leggings or tights/skirt combo, non-baggy clothing. Hats and gloves are permitted. Helmets are required for those just getting started.
